My #newtoWho Story

BBC America has a fun initiative to introduce a new generation to the wonderful sci fi series Doctor Who. In this initiative they ask the fans of the show to tweet about their first experience with The Doctor and some of their favorite moments. They are to then tag said tweets with #newtoWho. All this is a lead up to the next season of the show that starts this week. Since I am a big fan of the series and I have this forum to spew out my opinions about things, I figured I would throw my fez into the ring. So what follows is my first account of watching the show and a smattering of some of my favorite moments. This is my story.  Read the full post »

A Song That…

Lists are fun. Compiling them, reading them, thinking about them… I enjoy that. When I stumbled upon this questionnaire somewhere in the social meadiaverse I saved it thinking that it would be a good list to share with my readers; and possible fill out myself.

It is rather long and some of the questions really sent me thinking. Which I think is a good thing. Because of all the thought I put into filling this out it took me a sizable amount of time to complete. But I think it was worth it.

I now share with you my ‘Songs That…’list. Let me know what you think and please feel free to fill this out yourself and post it in the comments. (I will include, in the comments section, a clean list for you to copy for yourselves) I would love to hear your musical choices!

The highly stylized noir graphic novel is getting a second shot at the box office. The original 2005 ‘Sin City’ was stunning in its jump from page to screen; Frank Miller’s source material never looked better. For the sequel he and Robert Rodriguez bring us back to Basin City and crank up everything. The look is just as stunning. Here’s all they are saying so far about this one:

This isn’t to be confused with the wildly entertaining animated TV series ‘Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law’. (And now that theme song is stuck in my head) No this is a bit different.

The 100… Honorable Mentions

The list is complete…. FINALLY. But there are still a few films that should be viewed to further your nerdlings along on their journey to becoming a well-rounded nerd. There will be no descriptions or justifications for these honorable mentions. Nope. Just a title. Maybe a short parenthetical on one or two to denote the year or to clarify which film I mean. Ok… maybe one or two justifications. But they will be short and still in parenthetical’s sweet embrace.

Take a look at this short list of films and let me know if they should have been on ‘The 100’ or if they shouldn’t even be included here. As always these are in no particular order. It’s just how they popped into my brain.

The 100… Part 10

The 100

The 100

You’ve seen all these must see movie lists that clutter up your newsfeed on the Facebooks and other pages on the interwebs. I know I’ve seen a ton of them. Usually the parenthetical to the title of the piece is ‘[Insert number of movies here] you need to see before you die’. The problem I have with the vast majority of these lists is that they are compiled by film school snobs who think French new wave or some other pretentious crap is the bee’s knees.

Where are the lists for the hard working masses? Where are the lists for nerds who are trying to teach their nerdlings about the wonderful world of movies? Where are the lists for the hard working non-nerdy masses who happen to be raising a young, enthusiastic nerdling?

The answer to those questions ladies and gentlemen is right here. I am going to gather together a list of 100 movies that you don’t necessarily HAVE to see before you shuffle off this mortal coil, but rather a list of 100 movies that should be seen to further broaden one’s soul. Some maybe obvious and I’m sure some you won’t have heard of, but all will be worth it. I’m just here to help.

These will be in no particular order and they won’t be numbered (Why number them if they are being counted down and you already know there’s going to a total of 100) and broken down into ten easy to digest segments. So let’s keep finish with the final ten…

5 Or More… Comics that Should be Films

By He Might Be Giant

He Might Be Giant

Over the past, let’s safely say, five years comic book movies have become a huge hit in box offices nationwide.  Yeah there was ‘The Crow’ and ‘Blade’ in the 90’s but as of late they have gotten BIG.  Of course though there are those comic book films that just cannot connect with the audience… *Ahem ‘47 Ronin’*… which are critical failures, but to those of us who enjoy the books, were exactly what we expected. So this got me thinking “what would make a great movie that the average nerd can connect with?”

So…

Here is a list, in no particular order, of my favorite Comics that Should be Movies.
