A Song That…

Lists are fun. Compiling them, reading them, thinking about them… I enjoy that. When I stumbled upon this questionnaire somewhere in the social meadiaverse I saved it thinking that it would be a good list to share with my readers; and possible fill out myself.

It is rather long and some of the questions really sent me thinking. Which I think is a good thing. Because of all the thought I put into filling this out it took me a sizable amount of time to complete. But I think it was worth it.

The buttons that take you to other worlds

I now share with you my ‘Songs That…’list. Let me know what you think and please feel free to fill this out yourself and post it in the comments. (I will include, in the comments section, a clean list for you to copy for yourselves) I would love to hear your musical choices!

1: A song you like with a color in the title…

Some of these are word association for me so I go with the first thing that pops into my head. In this case it is:

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl

2: A song you like with a number in the title…

This is how my organized mind works. Think of a number, just a random number and of course I start at the beginning:

Three Dog Night – One

3: A song that reminds you of summertime…

I believe I have stated this fact before ‘It isn’t summer until I hear this song’:

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince – Summertime

4: A song that reminds you of someone you would rather forget about…

I do really enjoy this song and I have been known to do this a time or two at karaoke. But it does remind me of someone that I really would like to not remember all that much.

The Darkness – I Believe In a Thing Called Love

5: A song that needs to be played LOUD…

If you enjoy the glam rock of the late 80’s you have cranked this song a time or two (R.I.P. Jani Lane):

Warrant – Uncle Tom’s Cabin

6: A song that makes you want to dance…

Not going to go with anything obvious here. I’m am going to go with one of my signature songs from my DJ’ing days. I always played this tune and it never failed to get couple out on the dance floor:

Chris de Burgh – Lady in Red

7: A song to drive to…

There are tons of great driving songs. But being a country boy I’m going to have to go to that side of the radio dial for this one:

Jason Aldean – Dirt Road Anthem

8: A song about drugs or alcohol…

This is such a powerful song and the video is so beautifully done. I love it:

Brad Paisley ft. Alison Krauss – Whiskey Lullaby

9: A song that makes you happy…

There are so many tunes that bring a smile to my face it is hard to choose just one. But I will have to go with this because it is just a great bit of fun:

Was (Not Was) – Walk The Dinosaur

10: A song that makes you sad…

Hmmmmm… Tough call. There are many songs that will bring tears to my eyes. The above mentioned ‘Whiskey Lullaby’ will do it. But I’m not going to repeat a song so I have to go with a different song that elicits melancholy. Oooooooo… I just thought of a great one:

Mary Beth Maziarz – Daydream Believer

11: A song that you never get tired of…

Again there are so many songs that I could listen to on a constant repeat and never tire of them. But let’s go with this:

Colin Hay – Waiting For My Real Life to Begin

12: A song from your preteen years…

Oh goodness, now we need to go into the way, way, way back machine for this. So many great songs to choose from but I am going to go with a song that I always seemed to hear on the radio as I tried to fall asleep when I was young:

The Dream Academy – Life in A Northern Town

13: One of your favorite 80’s songs…

Thousands of songs flood to mind when I think of the 80’s. I might have to do a couple here:

Mr. Mister – Broken Wings

Toto – Africa

Tears For Fears – Everybody Wants To Rule The World

14: A song that you would love played at your wedding…

Good question. I have been part of the music for hundreds and hundreds of weddings (Around 2000 to be more accurate) and that is always the big question; What is your song? I have collected a few over the years but if I was forced to pick one I will go with this:

Melodie Crittenden – Broken Road

15: A song that is a cover by another artist…

This has to be the easiest one on the list for me so far. This is a no brainer. This is one of my favorite cover songs of all time:

Chris Cornell – Billie Jean

16: One of your favorite classical songs…

I’m going to have to go with one of the pieces that has inspired one of my favorite bands of all time; Led Zepplin:

Johann Sebastian Bach – Bouree In E Minor

17: A song that you would sing a duet with at karaoke…

I have done this song as a duet with someone and every time I hear it, the song remind me of her. Good times:

Elton John & Kiki Dee – Don’t Go Breaking My Heart

18: A song from the year that you were born…

Oddly enough the song that I just listed was from the year I was born. It actually was the #2 song from that year according to Billboard. There were many great songs from that year. Here is the top 100 from 1976. I could honestly throw a dart blindly at that list and enjoy whatever song it lands on. So I will do just that. Here is the result:

Dr. Hook – Only Sixteen

19: A song that makes you think about life…

Another tough question but I have the perfect answer… well perfect in my head anyway:

John Lennon – Imagine

20: A song that has many meanings to you…

This song evokes so many different memories about different times and places for me:

Firehouse – Love Of A Lifetime

21: A favorite song with a person’s name in the title…

Again I am going to have to put up a few different ones. So many great choices:

Barenaked Ladies – Brian Wilson

Styx – Lorelei

Carly Simon – Jesse

22: A song that moves you forward…

Interesting question. I had to sit and ponder this one for a long time. Really longer than I should have. But it is interesting to see what comes to your mind when you thing of motivation to progress your life. This is what I came up with for this one:

Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill

23: A song that you think everybody should listen to…

‘Imagine’ came to mind when I read this question, but I have already used that on the list. So I put on my thinking cap once again and decided to go in a different direction:

Beth Hart – L.A. Song

24: A song by a band you wish were still together…

There is no doubt that this was the band I would choose for this question. No doubt at all:

Led Zeppelin – Going To California

25: A song by an artist no longer living…

I’m going to go with this artist because I just happened to be driving on the exact same stretch of road that he happened to crash on and this song of his came on the radio right then. I still get goosebumps thinking about it:

Harry Chapin – A Better Place to Be

26: A song that makes you want to fall in love…

This is what I want when I find love. That unexplainable thing that draws you to them. I can’t put it any better than this song. Nor could I  show a better example of the type of woman I want to have this feeling with than the enigmatic star of the video Emmanuelle Chriqui:

Zac Brown Band – Whatever It Is

27: A song that breaks your heart…

From the first time I saw the movie ‘Once’ and heard the trademark song within, it always touches me. The unrequited love that flows throughout the story culminates in this beautifully haunting song:

The Swell Season – Falling Slowly

28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love…

I am going to list a couple different ones here. All of them happen to be ladies who I absolutely love their voices (Ok so I lied. I ended up putting one guy on the list at the end):

Joss Stone – Son of a Preacher Man

Norah Jones – Turn Me On

Sara Watkins – You and Me

Pearl Jam – Just Breathe

29: A song that you remember from your childhood…

There is one song that stands out when I read this question. It is a song that never failed to come on the radio when I was in the car with my maternal Grandparents. So every time I hear it I think of them:

Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers Band – All The Gold in California

30: A song that reminds you of yourself…

Oh boy… I have no idea. I don’t know if there is a song out there that reminds me of me. This might be the toughest question in the whole bunch. I am stumped. I will have to go with the first song I ever did for karaoke and it is still one of my favorites to this day:

Alabama – Mountain Music
