With Mother’s Day this weekend I figured it was appropriate to take a look at some of my favorite Moms. Moms are the bestest. Not much more to say than that! Except… I love you Mom!!!
Here is a list, in no particular order, of my favorite Moms.
Clair Huxtable – (Phylicia Rashad)
Claire was pretty awesome. She was a strong, smart and very beautiful woman who held her own on every level. Plus she had a great voice…
Edith Bunker – (Jean Stapleton)
Edith was one of the most complex characters in television history. She was the sweetest woman; she had to be. She was the perfect balance and the perfect foil to the curmudgeon of a husband. Some of the most powerful television came from this half hour comedy and this wonderful woman. She seemed like a meek little lamb but she knew when to put her foot down.
You always knew Edith loved Archie, but in the end you really found out just how much he loved her.
Laura Petrie – (Mary Tyler Moore)
She was a groundbreaker and a controversial figure on television at the time. There was such a big deal made from her wearing Capri pants on the show that a deal had to be made where she was required to be in a skirt for a certain number of scenes per episode. To combat this, Carl Reiner and the other creators and writers filmed a scene where she walked into the kitchen in the Capri pants and came back out in a dress. The network finally caved. Those Capri pants sparked a HUGE fashion craze akin to “the Rachel” hairdo of the mid 90’s. Plus Laura was adorable!
Rebecca Donaldson-Katsopolis – (Lori Loughlin)
I believe Uncle Jesse said it best when he said “Have Mercy.” Defiantly had a crush on Becky. She was swell.
Catelyn Stark – (Michelle Fairley)
Now this is a mother who gives everything for her family. EVERYTHING… She is such a powerful and strong figure. I have nothing but respect for this woman. Through all the tragedy that befalls her and her family she stays strong for everyone. Brilliant, purely brilliant.
Molly Weasley – (Julie Walters)
Ok, Ok, Ok… So Molly isn’t a TV mom and that is really what the list has been, but she is still one of my favorites. If I did a list of favorite movie moms it would be a bazillion names long and who has that kind of time. Am I right???
Like the Lady Stark, Molly would do anything to preserve the safety of her family. She is the epitome of a momma bear; she is a sweet, caring and wonderful but if provoked……..
Honorable mentions go to Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden), Maggie Malone Seaver (Joanna Kerns), Elyse Keaton (Meredith Baxter), Mona Robinson (Katherine Helmond), Angela Bower (Judith Light), Mary Margaret Blanchard (Ginnifer Goodwin), Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison), Rita Bennett (Julie Benz), Piper Halliwell-Wyatt (Holly Marie Combs), Gail Leery (Mary-Margaret Humes), Norma Arnold (Alley Mills), Morticia Addams (Carolyn Jones), Jill Taylor (Patricia Richardson), and Carmela Soprano (Edie Falco).
There it is, for better or worse. That is my list of Moms.
Let me know…
