One… One Year…

Cake!

#1 Cake

Today marks the one year anniversary of The Average Movie Nerd being created. I would like to thank everyone who has visited the site. I hope you have enjoyed the musings from my brain. And I hope you come back for more. Next time bring friends!

Hansel & Gretel Get Baked

Yep… Pretty much exactly what you are thinking. A stoner twist on the classic Grimm fairytale. Granted this may have a little more humor in it than the original source material but the dark side looks to have been preserved. I know I will seek this one out. Why you may ask? TAMN you don’t partake in the sticky icky? This is true. I am not into that whole scene but I do love Molly Quinn. She is a fantastic young actress who is intelligent, witty and stunningly beautiful; pretty much my dream woman. No… from what I have gleaned, she is exactly my dream woman! So yeah I will find this movie and I will watch this movie. J

(I think I maaaaaay have come off a little creepy there. Damn. Now she will never talk to me *sniff, sniff… wipe tear away… pout* )

John Conlee

#MusicMonday

For the vast majority of my life when I go to bed I do so with either the TV or a radio on. It helps distract my brain from the many thoughts running around inside of it. Plus it comforts me; it is like having a friend in the room with me. Some of my earliest memories are of lying in bed at night listening to the classic country music (well it wasn’t classic then, it was contemporary) coming from the small radio beside my bed. The country artists would sing me to sleep every night. One voice in particular always stuck with me.

John Conlee’s voice has always brought me comfort. Listening to him and his music is like hearing a story from a lifelong friend. I grew up listening to his music but it wasn’t till I was grown up that I truly became a fan.

I know country music isn’t for everyone. It is usually the butt of a lot of jokes. But it shouldn’t matter. People like what they like. I don’t only listen to country. The first two presets on my Sirius Radio are channel 31 ‘The Coffeehouse’ and channel 32 ‘The Bridge’. I like what I like, so should you, like what you like; let the naysayers be damned! For your consideration, here are a few of my favorite John Conlee songs so you can try them out.

And The Winner Is…

Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane as host of the 85th Annual Academy Awards.

Ok, so they don’t say that anymore because it hurts people’s feelings… so stupid… Anyway, here are my picks for the 85th Academy Awards tonight. Let me know what you think.

Oscar day is here! I will be rooting for Seth tonight. He will rock it! What are your thoughts and/or predictions for the show? Will you be watching?

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone

Old school versus the new. Yep, time tested formula for comedy. The trailer is straight forward and I believe what you see is what you are going to get with this one. If you are a fan of Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi or Jim Carrey you are going to watch this and enjoy it. Oh and don’t forget Alan Arkin. I love Alan Arkin. He is one of my favorite actors; comedy or otherwise. He is brilliant. I am sure this is going to be worth a few laughs. And if you are a real magician, I am sure you will have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy this one.

Random Movie Day 2: The Quest For More Action

The Expendables 2

The Expendables 2

I continue on my journey to catch up on all the movies I have missed of the last year or so. With this one I was in the mood for some action so I sought out some pulse pounding flicks to keep me company. Several hits and a couple misses but overall a good day.

The Internship

This is a modern fish out of water movie with Vince and Owen playing salesmen who try to get a job at Google. They of course are clueless and the kids are mean to them. I get a feeling this is a reverse ‘Revenge of the Nerd’ thing going on. Instead of the Tri-Lams trying to fit in, it is the Alphas trying to make it in a Lambda world. My best guess is if you like Vince Vaughn you will watch this movie; if you don’t I am sure you will avoid this one actively.

Shuffle 2: The Remix

It seemed like a good day to load up all my music and hit the shuffle button then write about the first five that pop up on my player. And let me tell you, there are some good ones in store for you! Take a listen and enjoy!

Nerdgasm

This video is so well done. They took the sword fight between Eddard Stark and Jamie Lannister from the first season of ‘Game of Thrones’, gave them lightsabers and cut it all to the John Williams score. Yeah… I know; awesome. It is nearly flawless. Love this with me will you?
