I think it’s a fact but, to be safe, in my opinion there are more horror/thriller movies written and produced each year than any other type. Mostly because they are usually made for less money and in a shorter amount of time. Also, they are quite popular. There are whole conventions dedicated to the macabre movie industry not to mention magazines, web shows, fan sites and countless tattoos. Many famous people got their start in these types of movies but over the last several years the trend has been going the other way; famous people doing horror movies.

‘Twixt’ has a twofer in the famous department: Val Kilmer and Francis Ford Coppola. Yep, you read that right, Francis Ford Coppola wrote, produced and directed this movie. Aaaaaand speaking of the movie, here’s what it’s all about:

A writer with a career in decline arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named V. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated.

I’ve been a fan of Val Kilmer since the first time I saw him as Nick Rivers in the now classic film ‘Top Secret’. He’s also in one of my all-time favorite movies: ‘Real Genius’. He’s had a wonderful career, granted not everything has been a winner but such is life. Sometimes you just do something for a paycheck. You’ve still got to pay the bills.

As far as this film is concerned, I’m on the fence. The pedigree is there with FFC and VK and it rejoins Joanne Whalley and Val together for the first time on screen since ‘Willow’ in 1988 and their divorce in 1996, but… there’s… well watch the trailer and you decide.

There is something that I can’t put my finger on. Guess I will have to watch it and see if I can figure it out. You should be able to find this in your local video store or if you don’t have one of those anymore, it is available to rent on most VOD or streaming services. Let me know what you think.
