And The Winner Is…

Seth MacFarlane

Seth MacFarlane

Ok, so they don’t say that anymore because it hurts people’s feelings… so stupid… Anyway, here are my picks for the 85th Academy Awards tonight. Let me know what you think.

Best Motion Picture of the Year

Winner:

Argo

I loved Argo. I think the Academy did a disservice by not nominating Ben Affleck for directing this one and they might just give him a makeup Oscar. Plus this movie has pretty much swept all the guild awards.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role

Winner:

Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln

But I am pulling for Hugh Jackman for Les Misérables, The Jean Valjean role is one of the most difficult vocal roles for a man on the stage (now the screen).

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role

Winner:

Quvenzhané Wallis for Beasts of the Southern Wild

I think the Academy might pull the trigger and let the young lady win. She was fantastic. If they don’t, the winner will be:

Naomi Watts for The Impossible

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role

Winner:

Christoph Waltz for Django Unchained

CW is QT’s muse. They are brilliant together. He should win. But I am always pulling for Alan Arkin anytime he is in or nominated for anything.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role

Winner:

Anne Hathaway for Les Misérables

Best Achievement in Directing

Winner:

David O. Russell for Silver Linings Playbook

D O. R swept the Spirit Awards which can be both a blessing and curse so that is why I think that the actual winner will be:

Steven Spielberg for Lincoln

Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen

Winner:

Django Unchained: Quentin Tarantino

For me, this is his best screenplay so far. He deserves this one.

Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published

Winner:

Silver Linings Playbook: David O. Russell

Best Animated Feature Film of the Year

Winner:

Wreck-It Ralph

But Brave has a real shot.

Best Foreign Language Film of the Year

Winner:

Amour (Austria)

Best Achievement in Cinematography

Winner:

Lincoln

Best Achievement in Editing

Winner:

Argo

Best Achievement in Production Design

Winner:

Lincoln

Best Achievement in Costume Design

Winner:

Les Misérables

Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling

Winner:

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Score

Winner:

Lincoln: John Williams

There is no stopping the man.

Best Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures, Original Song

Winner:

I hope it isn’t Adele. I hate that song. That said:

Ted “Everybody Needs a Best Friend” Go Seth!!

But it probably will be:

Les Misérables “Suddenly”

Best Achievement in Sound Mixing

Winner:

Argo

Best Achievement in Sound Editing

Winner:

Argo

Or…

Django Unchained

I can’t decide. I will go with my gut and say Argo.

Best Achievement in Visual Effects

Winner:

The Avengers

But it probably will be:

Life of Pi

Best Documentary, Feature

Winner:

Searching for Sugar Man

Best Short Film, Animated

Winner:

Paperman

I saw all of the shorts this year and this was by far my favorite.
