Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

The highly stylized noir graphic novel is getting a second shot at the box office. The original 2005 ‘Sin City’ was stunning in its jump from page to screen; Frank Miller’s source material never looked better. For the sequel he and Robert Rodriguez bring us back to Basin City and crank up everything. The look is just as stunning. Here’s all they are saying so far about this one:

This was born from Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s collaborative production company HitRECord. A fantastic place for creative people to go and help other creative people make creative things. From films to music to art the possibilities are endless.

People have been talking about this movie and I have been waiting to get a glimpse of the trailer. I’d seen a short clip of the film somewhere but nothing to really dig into. Finally the full trailer is out and it is good. The quick official description of the movie: (more…)

Man of Steel

Big budget plus big talent plus anticipation doesn’t always equal hit. In fact, more times than not it is the opposite. Thus the reason I am guarding my expectations on the latest reboot of the venerable comic book franchise. The parts are there for a ‘Dark Knightian’ success. But let’s not go there just yet. (Inside I have serious nerdgasms every time I see the different trailers for this movie)

Let’s hope Chris Nolan and Zach Snyder have captured lightning in a bottle because I really want to see a Nolan/Snyder ‘Justice League’ movie with Christian Bale playing an older, broken Bruce Wayne as mentor to Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Nightwing and all the others in the Halls of Justice. I really feel the success of this film will determine the future of the Justice League.

Lincoln

One of America’s greatest filmmakers, Steven Spielberg, puts to film the story of arguably America’s greatest president, Abraham Lincoln. The scope and scale of this… well, all I can really say is, wow… This is an epic tale told by an epic story teller and the cast he has assembled for this is unbelievable. I lost count of how many Oscar winners and Oscar nominees there are in it. No, getting all that talent together for a movie doesn’t make it great, but given Spielberg’s track record I have no doubt of this films potential greatness. I am eager to see this right now, but I will have to wait till November.

Looper

The premiss of this film is very meta. A hitman for the mob has a contract for a guy who turns out to be his future self. I heard about this film awhile ago and finally the teaser trailer is out. It looks pretty bad ass.
