What’s been missing from the zombie film repertoire? What was that? Why yes, yes you are correct. The answer is geriatrics. Well my friends that is no longer an issue. I present to you ‘Cockneys vs Zombies’. This is the official description:
“The Bow Bells Care Home is under threat and the McGuire’s – Andy, Terry, and Katy – need to find some way to keep their grandfather and his friends in the East End, where they belong. But, when you’re robbing a bank, zombie invasions makes things a lot harder. And let’s face it, they need all the help they can get when their bank-robbing experts turn out to be Mental Mickey and Davey Tuppance. As contractors to an East London building site unlock a 350-year old vault full of seriously hungry zombies, the East End has suddenly gone to hell and the Cockney way of life is under threat. Equipped with all the guns and ammo they can carry, it’s up to the gang to save the hostages, their grandfather, and East London from zombie Armageddon.”
I am a fan of the zed genre. I have a huge respect for the makeup artists who can pull off some of the fantastic things they do with the zombies. A true talent indeed. The people who worked on the practical effects in this one did an excellent job. Great braineaters. The whole look and feel of the film seems good. The plot… I am behind the plot 100%.
This looks like a bunch of filmmakers sat around watched and studied ‘Shaun of the Dead’ then asked themselves “How can we make that perfect film different and our own”; what you see is the result. From every clip I have watched the movie works; and works well. It has action beats, it has comedic beats and those beats seem to flow.
‘C vs Z’ has been making the film festival circuit for the last year. At the beginning of August it is getting a limited release in select cities across the country. To find out if it will be near you check out the official website. The movie will also release at the same time on VOD. The aforementioned website has a list of where it can be demanded from.
