Ben is playing a badass… and from what I can see it looks like he is doing a damn fine job. Why is he a badass? Here is the official telling of what is going on in 20th Century Fox’s ‘Runner Runner’.

Princeton grad student Richie (Justin Timberlake), believing he’s been swindled, travels to Costa Rica to confront online gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Ben Affleck). Richie is seduced by Block’s promise of immense wealth, until he learns the disturbing truth about his benefactor. When the FBI tries to coerce Richie to help bring down Block, Richie faces his biggest gamble ever: attempting to outmaneuver the two forces closing in on him.

Matt Damon did a poker movie… actually Matty D did THEE poker movie ‘Rounders’. That was a fantastic film. Now the other half of the duo (and they will forever be a duo to me) decided he needed to do a poker movie. This one focuses on the online poker world and has a slightly bigger budget. Time will tell if it can hold its own against ‘Rounders’. But I have a feeling this is going to be less about poker and more about good guys getting over on bad guys.

Speaking of good guys, Justin Timberlake is our good guy in this endeavor. I’m fine with that. JT is an immensely talented dude. It is ridiculous how talented he is. The dumpster fire that was the 2013 MTV Music Awards had only two bright spots: Macklemore’s performance of ‘Same Love’ and JT’s nearly 20 minute performance where, at one point,  he and the boys (men now) from ‘ N Sync got back together for a couple of those minutes. To the indifference of the useless group of squeal inducing bobbleheads One Direction.

I digress… Back to ‘Runner Runner’. The cast is rounded out by some great young talent: Gemma Arterton, Anthony Mackie and Ben Schwarts. To add another layer to this already sizeable piece of cinema goodness, one of the producers is Leonardo DiCaprio.

I feel like I’m forgetting something…  Wait… Did I mention that this is written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien the same two guys who wrote ‘Rounders’? No? Well those two guys wrote ‘Rounders’. I think that makes us all feel a little better about this one. You can head out and see ‘Runner Runner’ starting October 4th. I’m all in.
